Bio

Glenn Norris, CPA

“Choosing the right accounting firm is one of the most important decisions you will make as a business owner. Our job is to prove you right.”

Glenn NorrisCall him a non-traditionalist in a traditional profession. Savvy. To the point. Quick-witted.

With these skills and others in his repertoire, Glenn Norris established his practice in July 2004. It was time, as Frank Sinatra would say, to do it his way.

“My business philosophy is all about client relationships and the bottom line:

  • Understand and apply the appropriate tax planning strategies that will serve in my clients’ best interest;
  • Shoot straight on the costs to do business with us;
  • Inject a solid joke or two since they flow so naturally.”

Glenn’s experiences until then – graduating from Chapman University and working in private industry and public accounting – honed his skills in audit, tax, consulting and accounting to name a few. In 1996, he earned his CPA certification and four years later moved to the Central Coast in hopes of finding the perfect place to raise his family and retire.

As each year of successful service is celebrated, his client-centric philosophy is validated. “Our clients love how we do business and in turn they make us love what we do. I call that a ‘win-win.'”

Glenn and his wife Marcy live in Pismo Beach with their two children, Megan and Ryan. When he’s not in the office, Glenn is on the golf course, playing with his kids, or watching any sport imaginable on his 400+ channels.

A little UNKNOWN fact about Glenn…

“I stood on top of the Matterhorn at Disneyland, but did not have the courage to climb over the ledge with the Mountain Climbers. I also became somewhat of a local legend as I rode the Matterhorn on the outside of the bobsled and ended up all wet! Many people have gotten a lot of mileage from that story.”

Sarah Lewis

“Energetic – Professional – Reliable!”  These stunning adjectives used to describe Sarah were what sparked Glenn’s interest in recruiting her to his team.

Sarah has a strong background in the professional business arena.  Prior to working for Glenn exclusively, Sarah provided office services for 10 different attorneys and professionals, all of whom worked in different fields and specialties.  In addition to her professional skill sets, Sarah has the unique ability to make any environment enthusiastic and fun.

Sarah and her Husband Ty have been raising their three daughters on the Central Coast since 2001.  Sarah enjoys compulsive cleaning and volunteering time at her daughter’s schools.

A little UNKNOWN fact about Sarah:

Although Sarah claims she isn’t “good” with numbers – she has the uncanny ability to remember phone numbers.  Not just a phone number, but dozens – even ones she’s used only once.  Can you say Rain Man?

April McLaughlin

April’s first job out of high school was with an accounting firm in Los Angeles. She started out as the receptionist, but a strong desire to learn and be challenged had April taking on more and more work responsibilities. From the front desk to tax preparation and all parts in between, April has 25 years of experience in all facets of a full-service accounting practice. She has worked for small one-man operations, the largest CPA firm in Nevada and even endured a short stint as a self-employed bookkeeper (yuck!). Helping clients to understand their tax situation is her favorite part – making them laugh during the experience is even better!

April and her husband Mike live in rural Arroyo Grande with their ‘fur-family’ – two yellow Labradors and five hilarious cats. April is an avid knitter and Mike is an avid bass tournament fisherman. Occasionally Mike and April do things together. Occasionally.

A little UNKNOWN fact about April:

Several years ago, April saw a local accountant’s website and loved how funny and ‘real’ it was. She had wished she knew the guy so she could work for him. Fast forward several years and her bio is being read on that very firm’s site. True story.

Lynne Nickolas Iseminger, EA

“Knowledgeable – Enthusiastic – Ready to be part of a non-traditional team”.

Lynne began her career in the physical fitness industry’s corporate accounting office, where she soon advanced to manage the accounting department for several locations. She went on to a position as Accounting Coordinator in charge of 14 locations in the senior housing and long term care division of one of the largest non-profit organizations in Northern California.

Lynne was mentored by one of the top CPA’s in the San Francisco area, who taught her the ins and outs of corporate accounting and taxation. She established her practice 25 years ago and soon realized that working with nice people was essential to being successful and happy in her business. Her clients knew they could rely on excellent customer service along with her knowledge and expertise. In order to benefit her clients further and expand her practice, she earned her Enrolled Agent credentials in 1993.

After selling her tax practice in northern California, Lynne and her husband Tim, along with their two bossy, but beautiful ragdoll kitties, moved to Pismo Beach in 2011. They lived here for a few years in the 1980’s, vacationed here regularly and planned to return to live here in the future. With their three grown children now living in Northern and Southern California, Pismo Beach is the vacation destination for them and their growing families.

Lynne was drawn to the Glenn Norris way of doing business because it reflected many of her own values on the way to work with clients and to provide excellent customer service, especially in a less stressful business environment.

A little UNKNOWN fact about Lynne:

She’s an original beach girl at heart, and loves wading through the tide pools along the Pismo and Shell Beach cliffs.

Alumni

Our firm values our profession and we encourage today’s youth to pursue a professional accounting career.  We actively search for talent at Cal Poly and other local colleges, providing students with opportunities to learn more about the profession and get quality hands on experience while earning their degrees.  Here are some of our firm ‘alumni’ –

Valerie Evans

Valerie will forever hold the distinction of being the first employee hired by the firm.  Valerie joined the firm in September 2006 and worked with us until shortly after graduating from Cal Poly, moving on to take a position with the Big Four firm KPMG in San Jose in the summer of 2007.

Valerie has a great passion for accounting and was always enthusiastic to do even the most mundane projects.  It was always a pleasure to teach Valerie and work with her side by side.

Taryn Braze

Taryn spent six months with the firm between her graduation from Cal Poly and starting her masters degree at California State University Fresno, where she will complete her degree in eighteen months, quite an accomplishment.

Working at Glenn Norris, CPA gave me the opportunity to put into practice what I spent four years at Cal Poly SLO learning.  As an accounting student, my time working with Glenn helped to bridge the gap between theory and application.  Aside from gaining experience in my intended field, Glenn is the only boss I've ever had who was encouraging, helpful, and light hearted.  He made coming to work something to look forward to!” – Taryn Braze
